Sharing your story allows you to reclaim your narrative, find empowerment in your journey, and potentially help others who may be going through similar struggles. It’s a crucial act of self-compassion that can set the stage for healing and transformation. That’s the vision of the RedLily platform, and always will be.
For those willing to dig a little deeper, opening up about childhood trauma can be a powerful step toward healing and reclaiming your sense of self. Trauma, when kept silent, can fester and affect your mental and emotional well-being in ways that are hard to recognize and address.
I would like to personally thank our first-time author Julie Hinton-Green who through her heartfelt submission realizes the importance of opening up with our RedLily family. She is the perfect example of someone who recognizes that sharing her personal struggle to strength story can foster deeper connections with others, offering a sense of validation and understanding, while also providing opportunities for growth and resilience.
We hope you enjoy Julie’s story… please share with someone who you feel needs to read this.

How Becoming a Reiki Master Helped Me Build Resilience and Heal My Childhood Trauma
Resilience is often thought of as the ability to push through physical, mental, or emotional challenges. However, true resilience is much more than just toughness or endurance—it’s about the ability to recover, adapt, and ultimately grow stronger from life’s adversities. My personal journey into resilience began not with a gym routine or a mental mantra, but with Reiki, a healing practice that allowed me to confront deeply buried traumas from my childhood and emerge stronger, both emotionally and spiritually.
Growing up, my understanding of strength was clouded by the belief that showing vulnerability meant being weak. This perception was ingrained in me as a child after watching my mother’s frequent emotional breakdowns, which I internalized as a negative response to life’s challenges.
Growing up, my understanding of strength was clouded by the belief that showing vulnerability meant being weak.
Eventually, I learned to suppress my emotions, thinking this would protect me from pain. However, these suppressed feelings and unprocessed experiences from my childhood remained, only to resurface much later in my life—triggered by the arrival of my own children.
A Tale of Transformation and Growth
Becoming a mother was the catalyst for this transformation. The very act of nurturing and caring for my children brought unresolved childhood memories to the forefront of my mind. I found myself questioning the appropriateness of my experiences as a child, and I realized that I had long avoided facing the trauma that I had once buried so deeply. This confrontation was daunting, but essential. I had to heal those wounds to move forward, not only for my sake but for the sake of my children, who I vowed would not carry the same pain.
It was Reiki that helped me face these old memories. The beauty of Reiki is that it connects you to your inner energy, guiding you to unlock and release deeply rooted emotions. Through my Reiki practice, I began to uncover layers of unresolved pain that had been locked away for years.

Slowly, I confronted these emotions, understanding that to heal, I had to let go of the shadows that had defined my past. The more I delved into my practice, the more I realized how much my childhood experiences had shaped me and how resilient I had become in response.
Overcoming Personal Battles
In 2010, I was introduced to Reiki at a time when I was battling body dysmorphia, a consequence of years spent in industries where physical appearance was paramount. The years of modeling and acting had left me with a warped sense of self-worth, much of which stemmed from painful childhood memories. One memory, in particular, haunted me—my father’s harsh comments about my mother’s weight, which led me to internalize damaging beliefs about my body.

When I became a mother in 2012, the depth of these wounds became even more apparent. I was determined to protect my kids from the generational trauma I had experienced, but in doing so, I was forced to confront my own pain. My father’s passing in 2016 provided both a sense of closure and a chance to break the cycle. His struggles with alcoholism and mental health had impacted our relationship, but with his death, I was finally able to release some of the burden I had carried for so long.
Time to Carve a New Path
In 2018, I became a Reiki Master, and it was then that I truly embraced the importance of releasing my past. I realized that I couldn’t help others release their pain while I still clung to mine. Sharing my story with my husband was a pivotal moment in my journey, bringing both relief and challenges to our relationship. Yet, through the tools that Reiki had given me, I was able to navigate this period of vulnerability and healing.
Resilience, as I now understand it, is not about pushing through pain but about creating space for healing and growth. Reiki helped me develop emotional and spiritual resilience, which has become the foundation for everything I do. This form of resilience allowed me to transform my trauma into something positive—a tool for helping others on their own healing journeys.

Signs You’re Being Held Back By Emotional Drains
As a Reiki Master, I now teach others how to nurture resilience in four key areas of their lives: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. These pillars of resilience are deeply interconnected, and maintaining balance across them is essential for long-term well-being.
At the end of the day, I’ve seen firsthand how unaddressed emotional pain can drain our energy and deplete our capacity to be resilient. By managing these emotional “energy leaks” through practices like Reiki, meditation, and mindfulness, we can restore our inner strength and better navigate the challenges of life.

Life Lessons Through a Healing Modality
Reiki has shown me that true resilience is not just about enduring hardship but about embracing healing. Through this practice, I’ve been able to move beyond my past, helping others to do the same.
It’s an ongoing process—one that requires self-compassion and patience—but it’s also one that leads to profound clarity, strength, and peace.
Ultimately, my journey from trauma to resilience has been guided by Reiki, a healing modality that not only helped me confront my past but also allowed me to build a future rooted in love, compassion, and emotional balance. Resilience is now a central part of my life, and I am forever grateful for the healing and clarity it has brought me.
